Garage door openers for roll off roof observatories

Hi all.

After 6 years, my obsy roof is in need of major TLC and, as I'm not getting any younger and also have problems with my shoulder, I want to motorise the roof.

I've seen mention of garage door openers being used.....does anyone have any details/photos of how they are used in an obsy situation, and any recommended models?

One thing to be aware of is that I'll have to install the track down one side of the obs, rather than the centre....if I don't do it this way then I have to completely rebuild, which I'd rather not do!!

Another option might be some kind of winch system? This has cropped up a few times on this forum in the past.

Yes, I had a winch system worked out but decided to use the winch as a hoist for the NEQ6 mount and the heavier scopes.

Yes, a dual winch system would work, but with the garage door opener I believe it's possible to remote control it, and down the line I may well want to automate everything.

I also use a modded winch at the moment but I'm looking at the sliding gate type of openers for automation. Most run on a rail & you'd probably get that running on one side.
