That's a bit of a beastie What is it? Something like a 4" f/12?

Made by H N Irving of Teddington - now long out of business. Which makes it likely to be from the late 70's or earlier.

exactly i think its 3" does anyone recognise it how old is it

It is a nice looking refractor. Even though it bears the name Irving I believe the scope was mostly made in Japan and imported, probably by the Irving company. It's from the 1960's and can be found under various brand names around the world.
