Cygnus A on view?

I was aware that Cygnus A was a radio source but surprised that Megastar showed it as a tiny mag 15.5 [v] gxy in PGC 63932 = VV72 = MCG+7-41-3. Last night I got a shot of the gxy and the core is just recorded - data on image below including an overlay of the NRAO huge radio lobes extending from the gxy to scale.

Cygnus A proves the brightest extragalactic radio source in the sky from a giant elliptical gxy ~500-700MLY away seen through the nearby Cygnus Milky Way. It would be much brighter if seen clear of obscuring dust clouds of the Milky Way! A Google search gives more details of this amazing object including its presumed blackhole and 'jets' etc :police:

Good stuff mate. Nice to see you chasing and catching the oddities :)

I believe there is a reasonable amount of data to be had in the NIR on consumer cameras. Can't for the life of me remember what wavelength. It also shows ( NOT on my efforts ) on deep RGB if you feel inclined to go back to it.

Dave.

Yeh - I've checked the NIR sensitivity of my unfiltered SX cams [both OSC and mono] via spectroscopy and all reach to ~900nm [way beyond H-alpha at 656nm] so a third of cam sensitivity is in NIR and some help in objects partially obscured by Milky Way dust ! Here's a SX MX916 cam 2x2 binned shot for greater sensitivity in 3m exp. :police:
