Are they actually identical?

EQ6 syntrek and NEQ6 synscan.

I know you can upgrade a syntrek to a synscan by simply adding the appropriate £150-ish handset.

I'm just wondering if the reverse is true - can you downgrade a synscan to a syntrek by simply changing the handset, if you did not require the goto facility?

(I know this is a bit of a weird question, but I have my reasons for asking!)

If you can find an EQ6 Syntrek handset it should be possible. The only difference between the Syntrek and Synscan mounts is the handset. On the other hand, the latest firmware allows you to skip the star alignment routine and use the Synscan handset in Syntrek mode.

As far as I know yes, they both have the same stapper motors & st4 port etc, the synscan just has goto whereas the syntrek can be used with the laptop using EQMOD.

I meant *stepper* motors not stapper motors.....whatever stapper motors are ................ocd prevented me from leaving this unsaid!
