My Goto Dob. Prefer manual than goto

I am seriously thinking of removing the motors/Goto. I prefer to use the scope as a manual, it is much easier to use with a Telrad than i thought and removing the motors and goto would also remove the annoying play and backlash. I could then sell the Goto bits.

As anyone else been tempted to do this? Anyone actually done it?

I cut out the middle man and never went for goto. I have never felt the need at all, partly as I would sooner have more aperture for the same money and always assumed there would be 'stiffness' in the system if used manually.

the only time I'd feel goto is useful is for those nights when even brighter guide stars are not visible. then again if it's so bad you cannot see the brighter guide stars then goto taking you to dimmer stuff will not be much use so I stick with brighter old friends.
