What on earth??

Right now to the north slowly creeping 'up' really bright, really slow - not a star, not a plane, not a satellite - resolves to an orb in my hastily setup scope.

moving fast enough to skim through eyepiece but not sure if its maintaining direction - I am not one for hyperbole but this has me stumped

ok - was visible for ten minutes - now gone - insane.

I was going to say chinese lantern as well.

Seen a few of them and been stumped until its drifted overhead.

Nibor - far too white, and far too high.

But in the absence of any other explanation I'll take that - but the fact my scope with 20mm eyepiece couldn't resolve it tells me it was REALLY high.

Not sure how close you are to Stanstead but FedEx 7 an MD11 was approaching Stanstead from the north at that time after holding in a race-course pattern. At low visual elevation those landing lights can be quite something!

I see them occasionally from aircraft in the Manchester airport Control Zone nearly 50 miles away!
