Replacement straight through finderscope

Recommended Posts

So I'm looking to replace my 9x50 straight through finder to something with an eyecup.

Found this on TH

http://www.telescopehouse.com/acatalog/Meade_8X50__White__Finderscope__829_Rear_Focus___Brac.html

and this will be coming to market soon and has right way up and corrected left right

http://telescopes.net/store/vfei0850-8x50-correct-image-illuminated-finder-scope-w-bracket.html

anyone got any idea if these are any good? The ES one particualrily, although Im not sure its even out yet. Loving the idea of corrected U/D & L/R on a straight through with eyecup for comfort.

Like my 9x50 but think an eyecup could improve it alot so I get the maximum FoV without feeling like im going to get poked in the eye

The USA one is expensive but it's illuminated and that accounts for a fair bit of the cost (don't forget there will probably be vat and import duty on it too if you buy from the States) the other is out of stock.

I replaced the straight through finder on my Dob with an Orion right angle one ( the 9x50 on this page http://www.scsastro.co.uk/category/telescope-accessories ) and find it much more comfortable to use. Less bothered with glare from the likes of the moon as well since I'm not looking up when using it.

I've used a few of the Meade finders. They are optically OK but they all had such thin X hairs that they were impossible to see unless illuminated !. I did not find the eye cup much use either because the eyepiece has quite long eye relief so you need to position your eye further away from the eyepiece than the eyecup extends. Not great in my opinion.

The Antares finder seems to have a rubber eyecup:

The Antares one looks ok actually. I like the ES one, im trying to see if optical-systems are going to be stocking it.

Used a right angle finder one time and it doesnt work with the way I find objects. I use both eyes at the same time, left on the sky and right in the finder. Need a straight through.
