Guy Wells
Why when I point the scope in certain direction does the tube bump the motor or the control arms? I have a 114mm SkyHawk.i thought that the scope should be able to point to any point of the sky?it sits atop a eq1 mount.Any ideas?ThanksSkips
Mr Spock
You need to check if your polar alignment is correct. If you haven't adjusted your mount, it's likely the mount will foul the tube.
knobby
Google meridian flip... Not sure but I think that could be the answer
Guy Wells
Its a rough polar alignment. I think that this bottom of the range scope is just not made very well. Annoying none the less.
NGC 1502
Hi Skips. Not sure why the motor should get bumped, but the tube fouling the flexible slow motion controls is a very common issue. Maybe you can take off the slow motion cable when this happens and fit it on the other side, that's what I used to do before I went alt-az only with my mounts. The 'meridian flip' mentioned previously deals with when the tube hits the tripod.Another issue is when the eyepiece is pointing at the ground when viewing some parts of the sky. You can deal with that by rotating the tube in the tube rings. You can access any part of the sky with your EQ 1, but need the above fixes to do that.Regards, Ed.
