Rediscovered classic - what am I reading?

My other half has been spring cleaning and found amongst the boxes of things that never get unpacked when moving from house to house, a long lost old friend of mine I've not seen for many many years and I'd given up on searching for..

So with the snow in the air and no chance of these clouds clearing I've settled down by the fire with a Caol Ila to do some observing with the book that started it all for me.... happy memories...

So what am I reading then?

The introduction goes... "During the last decade there has been a tremendous surge of popular interest in astronomy. Undoubtedly the space-rockets have had something to do with this; but the interest has always been there, and for good reasons."

No, I can remember those exact words starting an artical on page 3 of the Sun back in 1994. April or May if I recall.
