Orion & Geminid - 13th Dec from Northumberland

Recommended Posts

Braved the -4c temps of Northumberland, to see 45 Geminids from 10-11pm on 13th Dec, including several really good fireballs.

Best meteor shower i've seen. Fog rolled in and stopped the show, but by then I was half frozen anyway.

Canon 1000d, 18-200mm telephoto @18mm, ISO 800, 20sec.

(levels tweaked in Elements to reduce glow of light pollution from fog hanging over Newcastle 35 miles away)

Proof you caught one

The weather down at this end was pretty dire, so missed the peak on the 14th - but managed to sneak out a couple of times last night 11ish and caught five with the Mk1 Eyeball over about 30 minutes. There was some patchy cloud rolling over, but in between banks the skies looked very clear and it was much milder than of late - perhaps 8C.

A couple of quite long tracks and three very brief. All were faint.

However, given the weather I was quite chuffed that I hadn't missed the show and the cricked neck seemed worthwhile ;)
