Carry cases for Skywatcher Explorer scope

Recommended Posts

Good evening everyone,

while i'm sitting here and impatiently waiting for the delivery of my scope tomorrow, my mind has turned to other things.

I was wondering how people transport their scopes to their prefered dark sites? Im quite fortunate to be fairly rural and will be able to observe from my back garden, but from time to time I will want to take my kit elsewhere.

I dont want to keep the cardboard boxes. Eventualy they are bound to get damaged and fall apart. Ive had a quick look on the forum and on google but cant see how people with the same scope get around the transport issue.

Im quite competant on the DIY front so was thinking of making a wooden case based on the dimensions of the box it is delivered in. By doing this I will also be able to make use of the foam or polystyrene packaging it comes with.

Do any of you have any other ways of getting around this or suggestions for places to look?

All the best all, and thanks in advance,

Tony -MMM

Earlier this winter, (as it seems we haven't reached spring yet - let alone the start of BST!) I started this thread and said I would report back. Well, here I am reporting back. I now have a transport solution for my scope. In the end, I spent a bit of time searching around the web for suitable containers or boxes and I came across an accessories case for a drum kit. There are loads on the market by the look of it, but in the end I went with one provided by Trifibre who are a company specialising in plastics. I've posted a couple of pictures on my blog. If you want to look, feel free. Scroll down the 2013 page until you see the section 'I'm working on a case....' Cheers, Tony
