Jupiter, No Redspot, poor viability 23/11/12

Hi gang,

Viability last night went from bad to worse,

My intention was to capture the great red spot using my cpc800, Neximage *original and 2.5xbarlow.

I started imaging a 19:45 and ended at 20:15. after processing my images the quality was clearly getting worse but no sign of the famous storm

According to redshift, the spot should have been visible,

I realize last nights images are not the finest example but should the spot not be there, or are these images just to poor quality?

Thanks

Hi Craig, unfortunately you were too early to capture the GRS. I was out last night frozen to the tripod, very cold...lol. My footage shows the red spot just coming around the limb after 22.10 - by about 23.15 it was pretty much central.

Best regards,

Ralph

The Red Spot does drift in longitude (and hence times of visibility) - you may need a correction for your software, but as i don't have Redshift i can't comment. Last night I found these two sites: http://www.acquerra.com.au/astro/software/jupiter.html and http://www.projectpluto.com/jeve_grs.htm which show transit times (or allow you to calculate them). Jupiter2 and WinJuPos (both freeware) are also useful.
