Hey all,

My first shot ever with my kit... 200p prime 500d 1/3200 800iso

Just croped a bit in PS.

Just looking for tips as i was just randomly changing shutter speed and iso until it looked ok...

Yes, jpeg or png is a much better choice. tiffs and bmps won't always display inline.

Is that a single frame? If so I'd recommend taking a few dozen and then stacking them using PIPP and Registax or AutoStakkert!2.

Yeah single frame. Will take more to stack next time. What would stacking help achieve? Forgive my newbie questions :-)

Single images will contain varying levels of noise and randomness due to the atmosphere. In a simplistic way, stacking allows that to be reduced or even eradicated. In turn that means you can apply processing such as wavelets in Registax to get a much higher quality image than is usually possible with a single frame.

Quite. A few dozen more like that and stacking them should produce a very nice result indeed.
