In rfesponse to the nikoon issue of being unable to lock the mirror - have you tried the delay before exposuire setting ? Basically it puts in a half second vibration damping delay after moving the mirror before the exposure is started.

also try a Hahnel expoisre controller for longer exposures than 30 seconds.

Works fine.

I tried the Nikon and Canon cameras before selecting Nikon - I hated the controls, the plastic and the bulkiness and most importantly an excessively bright light on the back of the Canon whenever an exposure was running.
