How long does Autostakkert2 take?

I'm processing some sunspot .avi's using Autostakkert2 and it is taking an age! 2000frame .avi's around 200 AP's (automatically placed in a grid) of size=50, stacking 15% - which I reckon is best 300 frames. All the various processes like align etc are taking around 20-30 seconds but the stack is taking an hour!! Is this normal or am I missing something? Thanks - I've got 14 of them to do!!!

I found AS!2 struggles with my solar images, either introducing artefacts or taking a long time. I gave up with it for solar in the end. I tend to try it now only if both versions of Registax have let me down.

I must admit that the couple that it has processed are much better than anything I can get from Registax - maybe the time is worth it?

What spec is the PC? And what camera are you using? I typically use 1000+ frame source from a DMK41, and the whole lot takes minutes on an i7-2600 at stock.

I think my computer is hand cranked!

Pentium dual core 2.4GHz 2Gb memory - could explan things.

Same here. Taking all day to process my moon shots, typically 30-40 mins to stack. I'm using 55% of 1000 frames so maybe shouldn't complain?

As a thought, monitor system memory while running and see if you're running out. I just had a look at it, and it seems to have an option for buffering: on or off. With it on, and doing a quick stack, it took up about 2.5GB for a 1.2GB file. That could be a problem on your system! But if I turn buffering off, the maximum memory usage was about 0.5GB, which should be a lot easier to swallow. Worth giving that option a look?

It says "No buffering override" at the moment - When it finishes (about another 7 hours!!) I'll check out what the settings are. Thank you.

It might be smart enough to see you don't have the ram, and therefore disable buffering for you. Can your system take more ram? Chances are you can probably get up to 4GB in there, subject to OS limitations.

I assume the buffering setting helps if you're really short on ram. If that isn't the case, then other limits (e.g. CPU) may apply. What's your system like BuzzBomb?

A net book! 1gig Ram and 1.8ghz cpu. That's probably why it's slow!
