todd8137, thanks yes York AS have what looks like a very nice dark site - even the right side of town for me! I'll be in the back garden mostly those as for every once I could get out to the site I can be out the back 20 times. - I think it determines my approach to buying kit though - big mirror & not worrying about transporting it. I've had a copy of "The Urban Astronomer" by Matloff I've been meaning to finish for a while.
