What would you try splitting & imaging with a 127 Mak?

Recommended Posts

Hi :)

I love a challenge and I love double stars. What beautiful double in the northern hemisphere would you recommend I attempt to split and image with a 127 Mak? I have already imaged Mizar & Alcor and Alberio A & B, which was easy. I'm ready to try another beautiful pair which pushes my scope more towards its limits.

Thanks for your help.

I'd not thought of using my Mak for splitting doubles, I have to admit. I use mine for planetary viewing and imaging in the main. I can see it makes sense though. I shall have to try it.

Like the Albireo double image in your gallery. The colours are lovely. It had never occurred to me to image multiple stars, either, but when they're such contrasting colours it's a great idea.

I have a 127 Mak on an EQ mount - it is a stunning scope for splitting doubles, performing well up to theoretical limits and giving a nearly CA free image when used with the right EP. Needs a bit of cooling down time though to reach max resolution - these warm evenings are the best.

Try some of the interesting and pretty doubles (and triples) mentioned in this forum - you won't be disappointed.

Hi LJ

Any of these will be good to try spliting.

I have split them on in a variety of scopes.

Cheers
