32mm eyepiece, I can see shadow of the secondary?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I have just bought a 32mm Meade 4000 eyepiece but when I use it I can see a shadow of the secondary mirror in it.

Would this be the same with all 32mm eyepieces?

It gives lovely crisp views but is a bit annoying!

Would the GSO eyepiece be the same?

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

Hi , because your scope is i believe f5 650mm focal length the exit pupil of a 32mm eyepiece is 6.4mm so if your eyes are not dark adapted you will be prone to seeing the spider. try again and get well adapted (it will take 30mins or so) 6.4mm is about or close to the limit. hope that helps. I get in on the 10" with the 43mm , but even with that extreme exit pupil the effect diminishes when fully adapted.
