Will that not clip the dark areas? Of do you just move it enough to not go into the histogram?

You'll get the idea after watching that video But yes, just part way from zero towards the very first part of your histogram.

We are just beginning to get a night or two a week of clear skies in this neck of the woods and I have just started imaging again (apart from All Sky Camera).  I spent a hour or so last night out in the obsy trying to remember how to do things   Scope room light not working didn't help, remote focussing didn't work and faultfinding with a torch was pretty near impossible.  I'll be playing with the gear during the daytime today, trying to get things working again.  It's supposed to be clear again tonight.
