A project inspired by Moonshanes Dobsonian

Just purchased the following items.

David Kriege and Richard Berry's book "The Dobsonian telescope"

1 sheet alluminium and 3 sheets of Baltic fir plywood

glad to hear you are having a go! what's the project? was it my big dob or suitcase you were looking at?

finally, where did you get your ply as I cannot find a good supplier locally.

to be honest it's the main reason I start my threads - I hope they'll encourage and help others. I have very basic skills, some tools and lots of determination, innovation and some 'while having a shave' problem solving abilities. I think that anyone can genuinely do what I do if they plan and have time to spend. I also try to show when things go wrong too as this is one of the learning tools along the way.

It was watching you build/mod the 16".

I thought why not have a go.

It is a 20" F4 design based on the Obsession range.

Just been reading Swampthings thread....i had missed it somehow.

My strategy is to do the woodwork and other structure before ordering the optics.

That way I will not lay out a lot of money if my skills are lacking!!

The optics will come from John Nichol.

awesome! John makes fine optics apparently. I'll watch this with interest and good luck! my 6" suitcase may give you some ideas too

First thing I would do is get in touch with John Nichol, as you'll need some info on the weight etc of the mirrors. I should imagine there is some time between ordering and delivery anyway.
