William Optics GT-81

Dodge around my question but there you go.. I'll ask again ''oh does that mean I can buy a GTF-81 through you also?''

I am surprised you want to make this public Guy. FLO will be stocking the new William Optics GTF81 refractor but following your aggressive response to our not offering you discount I have asked that you shop elsewhere. William Optics have two other trustworthy UK dealers and you can order direct from William Optics online store so our decision should not inconvenience you.

Hi,

New to this forum, but greatly interested in this scope if it's as good as the gt-81 is rumoured to be...One question though - how will the 5 elements influence the visual use? It's a lot of glass for the light to pass through compared to an ED80

The simple answer is nobody here knows, none of the imaging specialist or 'box shifters' know either, that’s why I have decided to sit back and observe what’s happens, it’s not the imaging season so it’s no big deal to me, besides the wife bumped here Mini at the weekend, that has set me back a month C’est la vie ... ;)

The Skywatcher Esprit with its internal extra elements has hardly caught the imaging World on fire, in fact there are plenty of nightmare stories about it and I for one wouldn’t buy one.

I’d sit back and wait if you’re not 100% ready.

I don't know who the 'Tim' is that Guy is communicating with (Paul is the UK Wiliiam Optics rep) but I do like his two-week ETA :glasses2:

Unfortunately the ETA has slipped, they are now expected mid-late July.

Your money would be better spent on a good ED doublet. The GTF81's additional elements are not necessary for visual use so it would be difficult to justify the higher price.

HTH

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but it seems the appropriate place to ask if there has been any update on this from either FLO or Guy?

I'm wondering when the first GTF-81's are going to arrive? I already have my Orion ED80T CF and am very pleased with it, but the GTF-81 with integrated flattener and R&P focuser looks like it could give it a run for it's money and I'd love to compare the two (or settle for comparing notes with a GTF-81 owner).

One last question for the crowd: Will the 101mm version come with an R&P or DDG focuser?

All the best,

Mike

Hi Mike..

I bought the APM 107 f/6.5 APO with 3" focuser , I didnt like the look of the skinny 2” focuser on the GTF 81, the image I was presented with via email didnt look like the press released image with the ‘FIXED’ single foot mount ( hate those) and that ugly finder scope, looks like an after thought!

Turns out that the image I was looking at was the bigger brother, I know it has a built in flattener and maybe it works great who knows. risk??

Personally I would by the APM 80/480 .. beautiful scope

Hi Mike

I think the scopes are still a few weeks away, it looks like at least four of us on SGL have ordered one so look out for images to follow. I think the larger scope also comes with a R&P DDG focuser, DDG just stands for "Digital Display Gauge" it doesn't determine whether it's a R&P or Crayford focuser.
