What is a Wixey

Wixey's are often referred to on here in relation to Dobs and setting circles.

I have a Dob and I am going to sort out setting circles o the base when I get a moment of spare time.

However, please could somebody explain in laymans terms, using short words if possible what a wixey is and how it works.

It's a little black box, with digital reading & tells you what angle it's at.

So using with Stellarium or the like, you can point a scope in the right angle.

A wixey is used to display the angle of altitude the dob tube is raised to. It is used as an electronic spirit level in DIY.

and its magnetic at its base so you just plonk it right on top of your OTA - easy.

I use similar for setting tablesaw blade angles etc.

Try GEMRED digital levels from Axminster Power Tool Centre .

Cheaper but very accurate'

I thought the Gemreds measured azimuth Steve - sort of digital setting circle or have I misunderstood?

A wixey is a great tool for any DOB owner.
