Need some advice on the camera mentioned in the subject line.

Brilliant camera on all acounts, however, you can't get the blumming lens off cuz it's fixed!!!!

Help!!!!! Is this useful for astroimaging? Or have I got a Lemon? :(

Hello Andy. Well, almost is the best and most gentle answer I can offer. You will be able to offer it up to an eyepiece in your scope with it's lens as close as you can get. There are adapters and cradles to enable you to do that. The configuration is known as The Afocal Method, as it is usually adopted for high resolution Lunar and Planetary imaging. Not much good for DSO's I am afraid.

The best way to use a DSLR is with the lens removed, and the image from the scopes first focus, or barlow extended focus is directly to the camera's chip. If you can return the camera for a refund, or to have it replaced by a one with a removable lens, then I would do that.

Sorry I can't make it easier for you than that.

Ron.

What I thought!! :x

Luckily, I only got it today so I'll take it back tomorrow and exchange it for a Canon or something.

Cheers Ron for the clarification.

Note to anyone: If you ask a question regarding technicalities to a young lad in Currys, for instance, "Can you remove that lens?"...

DON'T LISTEN TO HIM!!!! :(

Note to self: You should have known better ya daft yampytamp yed the ball!!! :)

Andy

I have the older S5600

You can use for afocal pics as explained by Ron.

I have used it on the Moon, M42 and some widefield.

I also used it to confirm some double star observations I had made.

If you want a DSLR then Canon is your best bet for Astropics.

Cheers

Ian

Thanks for the feedback folk.

I took the S6500fd back to Currys today, had a bit of a rant and rave :)

I ended up falling in love with the Nikon D40 and am now £340 lighter :?

So please tell me that this one's cool!!!!? :(

Cuz I ain't got the will to withstand the sales patter of the pretty sales girls and my credit card can't take much more!! :crybaby:

Out of interest, did they mention the cash back offer from Nikon?

I had noticed that... oh my esteemed fellow of "looky at things afar" :(

That was the deciding factor!

While your on?.......... Do you need a T adaptor for this SLR?

And.. Ohhhh ruddy hell!!! How thick is the destruction manual???
