Goto Funds have arrived

Hi all

I now have the funds for my GOTO upgrade for my new eq5 deluxe mount.

First Light Optics - SynScan PRO GOTO Version 3 Upgrade Kit for EQ5

Is this the one and only upgrade ??

ALso i was wondering, once i have the upgrade can i take my ota off and attach my dslr and tele lens to my eq5 to do astrophotography ??

hey paul, what OTA have you got, you might be able to mount the DSLR piggy back on top of the scope

The ioptron goto nova also fits the eq5 but obviously the synscan is a neater job. the synscan has st-4 autoguider capability the ioptron does not the eq5 should be suitable for astro work with dslr and lens providing the lens is not too long a focal length.

I was able to connect my dSLR to my HEQ5 mount. You may need an Deluxe Vixen Style Photo Dovetail and 1/4 inch Camera Screw. You can get these from modernastronomy for about £20. Basically it screws into the tripod socket on the bottom of the camera and the dovetail then attaches to the mount. I actually had it screwed into my telephoto lens for stability and balancing.

Dslr connection is on the back burner so its goto first.

Think I'll go battery power as mains seems a bit all over the place.

just get a power pack / jump starter these work really well

i only image with a dslr attached to a mount, i only experienced an eq 3-2 goto and it worked but i couldnt get the goto to work properly lol

just dont forget to balance it, with my dslr and 58mm i didnt need weights but the bigger the lens.......

i use my old scopes dovetail it has a hole already in the middle for a 1/4 screw which you can pick up in bnq
