Dobsonian Users - ground mat

Hi I am quite new here and I would like to open a second thread,

I would like to ask what - if anything, you use to protect your dobsonian base. Currently with my C8, protecting the mount from the ground is hardly an issue, athough I use a thin piece of tarpaulin, more as a catchment for eyepiece caps, grub srews etc. However wooden / particle board bases might require more consideration.

I believe that interlocking rubber matting is used, or perhaps simply tarpaulin is fine. I am looking for something fairly compact to transport with a 12" scope.

I bought a 1m sq tarpauling form Tesco for 99p (actually I bought three of the things). I just sit this on the grass and sit the Dob mount on that. I would have thought foam mat or some such would introduce the wobbles?
