ST80 on EQ2

AAARRRRRRGH! Does anyone use an ST80 on an EQ2 or similar?

Because the two scope rings attach straight to the base plate of the EQ2 it leaves very little space on the ST80 short tube refractor to balance it on the Dec axis.

What makes this incredibly hard is that I want to use my Pentax XL eyepieces that weigh loads compounding the problem even more.

Does anyone on here use anything similar that could advise me?

I don't want to have to get another set of ep's really, I love my XL's.

Can you not get another dovetail bar, attach that to the EQ2 and then mount the scope on the new dovetail?

AFAIR it was near the limit on the EQ1 as well because it's so short. The easiest solution might be to add more weight to the objective end of the scope to balance the eyepiece.
