Seen lots tonight, but couldn't see Rosette Nebula

Recommended Posts

At last, I've got my goto to work, and have had a great night viewing various parts of the cosmos, but couldn't see any of the ghostly ring in NGC 2244. Do I need a nebula filter to see any detail? I could clearly see the Orion Nebula in my skywatcher 127 syncsan az goto

The nebula is really hard to see, unless (like mentioned) you have very dark skies, and then you'll only see a hint of it. It is also quite a large object so you need quite a wide field of view.:)

The main requirement for spotting the Rosette neb is a large FOV. Without it your gonna struggle.

It's a very large object and one of the few that requires me to break out the Terminagler with my 10" Dob

An O-III filter really helps on this object too.

I have seen it from VLM5 sites but it's not an easy first time find from them.

Good luck.

Regards Steve
