Seen lots tonight, but couldn't see Rosette Nebula

At last, I've got my goto to work, and have had a great night viewing various parts of the cosmos, but couldn't see any of the ghostly ring in NGC 2244. Do I need a nebula filter to see any detail? I could clearly see the Orion Nebula in my skywatcher 127 syncsan az goto

The Rosette is not particularly easy to see visually without some very good skies. Personally, I have only seen the associated cluster with a similar sized scope in semi-rural skies.

And with an f10 127 Mac it's not the ideal scope for something so faint. Not saying it's not possible under a good sky, but a large aperture f5 / f6 reflector is better suited

I've only seen the associated cluster with a similar sized telescope from a reasonably dark site.

The nebula is really hard to see, unless (like mentioned) you have very dark skies, and then you'll only see a hint of it. It is also quite a large object so you need quite a wide field of view.

The main requirement for spotting the Rosette neb is a large FOV. Without it your gonna struggle.

It's a very large object and one of the few that requires me to break out the Terminagler with my 10" Dob

An O-III filter really helps on this object too.

I have seen it from VLM5 sites but it's not an easy first time find from them.
