How far do you drive to a dark site ?

As I'm still scopeless the problem has not come up yet, however, I know where I shall be going. I've visited the site and the access has been sorted out. Driving time from home about 10 minutes.

I usually observe from my garden but recently started meeting up with a group who meet at a nice dark site about an hour away.

Mostly from the back or front garden but found a real dark sky sight on the Epynt North of Brecon about 40 miles I guess. Got a few others book marked from a few site members and going over to Matts site in Blaenavon on Saturday. Then from March spend a lot of time in Cerdigion in W Wales which supposedly has some of the best dark skies in Wales- spoilt for choice - just need some clear skies now :0)

My Back garden aint to bad, if I travel 2 miles inland it get even better, the Clubs DSS is 10 miles away. take a look at Peter Sherman's Astro Blog: Stars and Constellationsfor examples for the sky quality around here.

oooh, I may have just sorted out a relatively (to me) dark site within about 20 minutes' drive.
