Powertank for heq5 Syntrek

Hi,

In preparation for my incoming HEQ5 Syntrek I bought a nikkai 5 in 1 powertank / air compressor from maplins. It has 17Ah battery, 12v output and the usual gubbins. I had the guy check the polarity of the supplied cig-lighter to jack cable and it's tip +ve.

But only when i looked at the instruction manual did I realise that the cig-lighter to jack cable is listed as a charging cable. Can i still use the cable to supply the mount or do I need a different one?

The cable is correct but in all honesty you don't want to use that one as it is too lightweight. What you need is this from FLO First Light Optics - SkyTron Power Supply Cable for Skywatcher & Celestron Mounts

You should get a suitable lead with the mount

That will be OK. I think they must mean you can charge the enclosed battery with this connection???? Even if it does manage to supply 13.8V (the normal charging voltage) the mount can easy handle up to 15V.

I have the same tank and the cable supplied is very flimsy and short. You need a decent power cable if your mount did not come with one (which I think yours does not).

My EQ5 synscan came with its own power lead as well as a data lead - I'd imagine the OP's will too

Ok, thanks. So if the mount comes with a better lead I'll use that and if not then at least the one I've got will work. That's ok then.
