Newbie question about Celestron C80ED-R

Hi guys, I just bought this scope OTA and it doesn't come with a diagonal or eyepiece. I tried fitting the diagonal from my mak 127 from it but it's too small to fit, can anyone point me to the right adapter I'm going to need for the Celestron please? Do I need to buy another diagonal or do I just need an adaptor?

Sounds like you need a 1.25" adapter - there is usually one supplied with the scope. The mak 127mm diagonals are normally 1.25" fitting. The Astroboot site might have a suitable adapter for sale:

If you can post a picture of your focuser then we can advise exactly which one you need - there are a couple of different types.

Thanks for your reply John. Yes, have been advised that I needed a 2" adapter, which i found on astroboot. Although I understand I can also get a 2" diagonal, will it be much different from a 1.25" one?

A 2" diagonal will enable you to use 2" eyepieces and the primary benefit of those is that they give a wider field of view.

I think the C80ED deserve a better diagonal than the one that came with the 127. I'd recommend getting a 2" dielectric diagonal. A dielectric diagonal will be noticeably brighter than the standard 1.25".

usually a 2" diagonal will come with a 1.25" adaptor so you can use both size e/ps.

I see from surfing the net the C80ED usually comes with a 1.25" diagonal, so check the size of your focuser before selecting a 2" one!
