Mars is in the bag at last.

Well folks tonight has been an evening full of firsts for me.

First first was I had to defrost the obsy roof with gallons of hot water just so I could open it.

After much scraping pushing and pulling I managed to get the roof open.

I had decided that tonight was going to be a Mars night.

Having never been able to get any detail out of this planet I decided to use the advice of a fellow member on here.

I must appolagise to you sir but I have forgotten your name.

Anyway your advice was to remove the IR filter from my spc 900.

This I did and sir I am endeted to you because you have supplied me with another first.

Image after image in glorious detail.

After 4 hours I decided enough was enough and parked up the scope.

Walking back into the obsy I was shocked to find my beloved black Helios was now completely white.

The ice was so thick I could not replace the cover on the finder scope.

Then followed another first - the obsy roof was frozen open.

More trips to the kitchen sink to fetch hot water.

After 20 minets I managed to get the roof shut although quite what my neighbours must have thought about my antics at 1 oclock in the morning god only knows.

Anyway I settled down and put all the AVI's through Registax 5 and these are the resulting images.

Hope you like.

Thanks

Graham.

Amazing images Graham

Please expand on what/why the IR filter does 'wrongly' to images of Mars.

regards

Tony

Thank you for your kind words folks.

Clayton - How do you mean scale ?

Tony - I cannot explain it but I have always had the IR filter fitted to the 900 from day one. I thought it was an important part of the set up.

After seeing someone elses photos I enquired from them how they managed to get so much detail and if they were using any special filters.

They advised me to ditch the IR filter and as you can see it works.

I dare say someone on here can explain the reasons but as to why it works is way beyond me.

Graham
