Welcome :D

What are the skies like in LA?

Currently we're having a mix of clear and cloudy days this month. Last year we had too many cloudy nights, I think global warming is affecting Southern California. In terms of light pollution, metropolitan L.A. is white-zone, but going north towards the mountains or east towards the deserts, you get orange-zone and darker skies. Also, facing south is the Pacific Ocean, so there's less light pollution to contend with when observing the southern constellations (we're at 34 degrees North) from a coastal site further away from the city.

TERRY, I lived in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks for 12 years and never had an interest on astrophotography or astronomy, with such beautiful clean skies I had in Simi Valley! Now I regret I did not start watching there. I cannot ay the same of Los Angeles, you have lots of pollution there.Good luck .
