Older c8 v new c6

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I am trying to chose between an alder celestron c8 with starBright coatings, and a new c6 with XLT coatings.

My mind is saying to go with the aperture - is this correct?

It will be used for planets, globs etc.

Are the starBright coatings as good as the XLT ones?

Thanks,

Jay

I've just come in from looking at M13 and M57 with my C8 (starbright) and the verdict is ...

:police::D :D :D :D :D:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :D :D

Great stuff - the Ring neb was clear even with all this moonshine around, even better with a Baader UHC-S filter :D

As Gaz says, go for aperture every time.

The difference in coatings between my XLT C6 and my Starbright C8 were noticable, at least when I looked at the corrector. From what i've read the XLT coatings add a good few %age points to the transmission figures. Weather you would notice in visual use I dont know. You would have to compare two equal aperture 'scopes to be sure. But on paper the XLT coatings are worth it. Plus they means the OTA keeps it's resale value longer, which in itself is a draw, at least for me
