Best astronemy iPad apps?

Hi all,

I have just purchased a skymax 127 GoTo scope and unfortunately have the new scope cloudy skies curse.

Would anyone recommend any iPad apps that can help me either learn the sky better or help while I'm out stargazing?

SkySafari is the best in my opinion. I love the time based animations. Zoom into Jupiter and see the moons orbit in fast forward/reverse mode. Ok that's a bit of fun, but if you want to understand where something will be in the sky at a certain time and date this can be very useful/

I think it has a nice look and feel, plus it can be used with your EQ mount to point your scope at anything you see in SkySafari.

Yes, I have it on mine that I purchased 4 weeks ago. And it is free!!!

Cheers, didn't realise, I'll have get it, already running it on my Mac, but the iPad version will be a big help.

There is a mars globe that is free too.

Might be usefull as the red one gets higher in the sky.

Great thanks for the advice. I'll try skysafari tonight, luckily I was able to get out and try out my new scope. Incredible views of Jupiter straight away, was very very pleased!

Is the lite version of sky safari a true likeness to the full version? Don't want to go spending £21 on the pro version but also dont want to waste £1.99 on the lite if it not representative.

best bet to read specs on website to suit needs, in summary my opinion is:

- if dont want telescope control consider lite

- mid version is great all rounder and cant go wrong either way

- if own large apeture dob buy full as has massive database

star chart for the ipad is amazing for me, i think it was £2.99, it shows you in real time all the messiars, planets etc.. all in real time as you point to the sky. also has night mode to save your eyes when viewing. highly recommended
