Kemble's Cascade

Saw Kemble's Cascade from my light polluted backyard yesterday.

I was surprised it was rather easy to to find following the directions of "two and half fields from Perseus" from IFAS Handbook.

The string of stars extends from NW of the view down to SE, diagonally.

It's one target I want to try and find with my 80mm scope and 35mm eyepiece (4.4 degrees) or my 8x21 travel bins (8 degrees)

I always forget about this target when observing

Funnily enough I just found this last night, Very pretty and is just like the name suggests, stars appear to tumble down

Yup, it's pretty much vertical during October evenings (which is one reason that it is my object of the month).

For me asterisms are a good target from light polluted sites and a great way to practice my star hopping skills.

Hi Perry, yes it's a nice sight in bins or a low power wide field scope.

At the southern end of the cascade is an open cluster, NGC 1502

(my user name of course). It looks like a double star at very low

power, higher mags show that these are the brightest members of the cluster.

Well worth a look, two objects for the price of one .
