I'd love to see Atik bring out a fast fps, high sensivity, exclusively planetary cam

Personally I'd like to see them produce a dedicated guide camera that retails around £200-250. They do offer the Atik Titan but that is significantly more expensive and an overkill if you only want to guide.

Currently our cheapest autoguider is the new Starlight Xpress CoStar which currently retails at £269.

We won't be stocking QHY, at least not for a while.

Software/Driver issues ? :(

At the moment I can't see anything that would be a cheap and with ST-4 guide port... There are non-ST4 cameras (TIS and alike) - but those would require direct mount connection via the RS-232 and bit more work with configuration in PHD or alike.

I have heard about the software/driver situation but that isn't the reason. CCD Cameras are complex and specialist so we favour brands with a reputation for reliability and who have UK service centres. We are however watching QHY with interest as they have progressed over the years and a number of SGL members have produced some very nice images using them.

As a QHY user for both Guiding and Imaging.

Cameras get a thumbs up.

But I use third party software for everything else, which IMO is not where it should be, however the savings made on the price of the cameras cover the purchase of Nebulosity 2 with ease.

Good and bad is ok Good and Good would be better.

Well.... On Atik discussion group still no response, and on QSI group best way for planetary imaging are DSLR in video mode + DS imagers add Sbig ST-i the guider as it also got called planetary (while having high price + slow framerate + nearly zero buzz on planetary forums). Moravian Instruments some time ago also weren't interested (as true imaging starts at KAF-somenumber).

So IMHO there won't be any "planetary" camera from DS cam makers that could threaten TIS/Point Grey/Basler and alike machine vision companies :glasses2: Sooner we could get cameras made by other planetary astronomers - like the iNova cams.
