Second attempt

My second attempt from last night using an old (web cam go).

Need some tips on getting a good focus please, I turned the FPS to 15 to try and focus the best I could then knocked it down to 5 for capture, it was dropping 70% of captured frames guess that’s because the conditions were very poor?

Looks to me like you are on your way Trevor. I don't have the expertise to help you, but someone will pop up with some good advice for you.

What scope were you using and barlow if any?

The scope is a 200mm skywatcher reflector, I used the 2x Barlow that came with the scope, I tried the 4x imagemate but the conditions were so bad it was just a blur.

for starting off Trevor , i would step back a bit take some wider field of view images first, get used to focussing the cam , wider are easier to focus on , and will let you know as well what the conditions are like and if its worth going in closer, so far its been bad up there for many of us, have you a focal reducer for the wider view , if not Modern Astronomy do a 5x reducer for web cams , but a very good result anyway .

I think dropped frames is down to the transfer not being fast enough or the saving to hard disc, rather than image quality. Might be hardware related, but the webcam doesn't know that the image is dodgy it just records what it can "see".

As CC says, the hard disk is probably the culprit even using USB2.0 I still get dropped frames due to my drive not being able to keep up.
