Is the penumbral shadow observable?

Was busy searching the moon before the start of totality, to see the penumbral shadow crossing over

but despite taking lots of AVI's, I didn't see it.

Was I expecting too much, is it viewable

This one I took when the shadow was predicted to be there but no apparent signs.

Must have been too subtle

Is it just me - or do you get a hint of the P.U.S. when the b#ggers on-the-move proper-like?

I don't know about the Penumbral, but that's as suberb a detailed shot of a full moon as I've seen. Well, part of it at least.

That is as good as the eclipse on it's own.

Was a bit dissapointed though as I had set up to get a movie of the

penumbral shadow moving across Mare Serenitatus but as it turned

out there was no contrast between the shadow and the normal as

seen through my gear.

Next time I will get it though

I'm fairly sure I saw the penumbra Phil. Had a look at the appropriate time and there was a distinct shading to the lower left bit for a few minutes before it faded. i expect that was when the whole moon was penumbral or whatever the correct term is.

I might be being a bit naive but I expected something similar

to what you see when you run the Starry Night sequence for the event.

A sort of tsunami of shadow moving over the moon before the main event.
