Wow! I feel such a rude dude. I started my first post and was instantly greeted - then I disappeared for two days! After my first post my computer was overrun by superior forces who wanted to pay some bills (if they cut the electricity off the house will be dark and I will be able to see more stars). Then the family were out for the day.

In the mean time, my post racks up almost two pages of response - thanks for the VERY warm welcome folks.

I do not have any viewing equipment at the moment (not even binoculars - honestly) but I intend to rectify this as soon as I can.

Location for those who have asked is at the Warrington end of Manchester on the banks of the Ship Canal.

Thanks Si W - you called me an astronomer .... sounds cool.
