One of the Guys down the road alerted me to this, he took a picture of it, I think, before it was discovered but never checked his images until after.

Nice to image a super nova for a change!

Yes I agree with Steve - I like the animation - really helps to show the SN. Someone's going to have to teach me how to do that :)

In Gimp create two layers and put a picture in each layer and align them (you can flick between the two and then rotate etc)

Then just save as gif and it asks you if you want to export it and then if you want to save it as an animation and at this point you can set the time it takes to flick between layers. Very easy..have a play!
