M13 photo - my first effort

Hi All:hello2:

got some imaging done last night:D...M13. here's how I did it:

Failand 30.5.11 1st attempt at imaging M13

Orion 150 6"

Canon 20d

800 asa

18 subs 100 seconds

18 darks 100 seconds

5 bias 1/4000th sec

sausage sandwich, raggae raggae sauce, and a beer:)....then to bed

stacked in DSS

Processed in photoshop elements & pixinsight

Good first effort Bob, well done. The Reggae Reggae sauce has deffinitely helped. If you increase the saturation a bit, you should get a nice colour contrast on the bright stars flanking the cluster.

A little trailing showing, but not bad, and nicely resolved.

You don't need to use bias if you're subtracting darks, although in DSS the easiest way is to use all of the calibration frames.

If you are using bias though, shoot 50 or so...it's very quick and you can use them again and again.

The more calibration frames you have, the less noisy they'll be, in exactly the same way as adding more and more subs reduces noise. With too few, you'll definately add noise.
