I haven't been on one of these, and i'm a God parent on the 21st May, but i'll be booking in for the next one, for that price you can't go wrong......I could probably read 10 books and still not learn what that could teach me....

that would be an interesting course wonder if i can talk the misses into letting me do it.

I'd plum for attending an SGL star party.. you get beer too! I learnt a massive amount just observing and having the hands on with people around.

Seriously, it would provide a grounding at a practical level, however may courses focus on the tools and not the reason why/when the tools are used in a specific way.

I have not been on his course, but I do know that Ian has been working with CCDs since... forever. He knows a lot of stuff and I am sure you will learn loads.
