  1. Nice work Geoff. A very productive nights planetary imaging.
  2. I beg to differ. Dobsonians are a good choice for planets especially the full size 8" and upwards.
  3. I don't look at my G & G setup as better or worse. I use mine when the weather conditions provides only intermittent clear spells. Obviously if the sky was azure I would set up my larger scopes. When the conditions only provides say 20 minutes observing time it just doesn't justify setting up my larger scopes often with an EQ mount. Better to grab 20 minutes over nothing at all. By the way mine is an ED80.
  4. The best reasonably priced eyepiece in the 30mm range is the UFF 30mm They come in various guises like APM, Stella Lyra, Celestron Edge, Altair UFF. This is superior to the ES 30mm.
  5. As it goes I am intending to do a comparison between them my next proper solar session. I feel that the Baader Solar Continuum Filter will win out over an IR Pass. I have already compared the 10nm against the newer 7.5nm Continuum Filter and found the 7.5nm to come out on top both in imaging as well as visually. The difference is small so if I already owned a 10nm I wouldn't rush out to upgrade it to a 7.5nm.
  6. Large river delivery today of a Svbony SV220 dual band filter to try in my EAA setups. I will need to increase my exposure times no doubt, but not to the point where I will require guiding i hope. If I do then so be it. I also reacquired my little made by Vixen in Japan Tasco 8x40 binoculars. These are extremely light and sharp with an 8.5° fov.
  7. The Morpheus are basically a 1.25" eyepiece with a 2" skirt allowing them to be used in a 2" setup. They are not modular like the Hyperion.
  8. The classifieds become available after 30 days and a minimum of 25 posts in astronomy related threads I believe. It also used to be 250 posts to place a for sale item. I am unsure wether the later has changed.
  9. It just shows how personal eyepieces actually are. The 17.5mm Morpheus was my most used and the 14mm the least. Probably due to the longer focal lengths of my scopes at the time. The others were used frequently as well.
  10. Tired of my RACI continually losing alignment frequently so purchased this guide scope/ finder mounting bracket. Good quality bargain from the bay of fleas which I was made aware of by @wesdon1.
  11. The fact that you have crossed TV off your shopping list I would without hesitation opt for the Morpheus eyepieces. I have owned the set of Explore Scientific 82° as well as the Morpheus range. I have also owned the range of Nirvana's. The Morpheus wins out over them all. The contrast and clarity is excellent throughout the range as is the viewing comfort and eye relief. Regarding blackouts? I've never experienced them nor really heard about them. Finding eye position comfortably in the shorter focal lengths has led some to fit the short M43 eyepiece extension to attain a more comfortable eye position. I never found this myself. When I reviewed them for FLO I would have given them 6 stars if I could.. The Nirvana's are great value as well and no slouch. Avoid the 16mm though.
  12. There's no mention of this on any of their websites and this must be old information. These things have a habit of never being updated and are just left. Being online only they don't fit the OP's desire to visit an actual shop. Something of a rareity nowadays.
  13. Lovely piece of glass. I may consider looking for one for myself in the 100 - 130mm range.
  14. Harrison's Telescopes are in Brechin Scotland.
  15. Lovely captures. Nice banding showing on the planet with Titan clearly seen.
  16. You would just adjust the power outputs depending on how bad the dew is. Really bad 90 - 100% , mediocre then 50% , light dew then 20 - 30%. You will just have to tailor it to the results of keeping the dew at bay.
  17. Has anyone informed FLO of this error? I was wondering what they were doing providing battery capacity.
  18. No they are not the same. Your 40cm at 0.67Ah is 8 watts. Therefore the current draw is 8 ÷ 12v = 0.66A. The 20cm is 4 watts so divide 4 by the 12v equals 0.33A. HTH
  19. Very nice Peter. I particularly like the Veil and Sadr. The L Enhance working nicely. What sort of exposures were you capturing with?
  20. If you are mainly visual then bite the bullet and get the 102EDR you will have no regrets. If on the other hand you want it for mainly imaging then get the Askar 103 triplet. That's my two cents worth.
  21. You are using the wrong cable. You don't use an FTDI or EQMOD cable on a mount that has the USB port. The connection is made by a standard USB2 A to B cable. I've ran all my mounts this way. EDIT:- Sorry, I've learnt that your mount doesn't have a USB port.
  22. It's a pretty straightforward process. The SC has the collimation screws behind the secondary mirror. By far the easiest and quickest way to collimate them is on a star slightly out of focus. At moderate to high magnification adjust the screws incrementally so that you have concentric rings and the shadow of the secondary is dead centre. You can discover what screw to adjust by sticking your finger in front of the scope where the rings are more compressed and adjust the relevant screw. I found them easier than an f4-5 Newtonian which has two mirrors and sets of screws to adjust.
