  1. I see offset, tilt and rotation errors with your secondary...
  2. Is this your latest image and/or have you got it sorted? If not, we really need to see the sight tube - can you place a sheet of coloured paper behind the focus tube and show the whole shot?
  3. Not easy to assess without a sheet of coloured paper behind the focuser (see https://astro.catshill.com/collimation-guide/) but I gave it a go. Assuming that the focuser is at 10 o'clock I see predominantly tilt and rotation error which I'd sort first. Then deal with the (more important) primary error.
  4. I also like the app and RACI pair for star hopping. https://astro.catshill.com/finding-dim-objects/
  5. I upgraded mine with a Lacerta dual speed. I am very happy with the result https://astro.catshill.com/lacerta/
  6. No I am not either. But then you meet a young child and that pessimism goes out of the window . So it depends if if you are glass half full or half empty person.
  7. Given that our children are not “us” then my definition of “we” assumes that the next step in our evolution is artificial. I would hope that these “beings” carry our history and ethics.
  8. It would have helped had I posted the link. Doh! https://astro.catshill.com/essential-accessories/
  9. I don’t align my mirrors in the dark. In fact my secondary mirror only need a tweak once in a while. The primary rarely even if I have had to transport it in the car.
  10. I would recommend taking a look at the Affinity Suite especially Draw and Photo and possibly Publisher if you produce printed copy.
  11. Top left hand side of the image you can see the plastic folder I use. The clip at the top holds sheets of blank A5 paper. It opens up and inside is a rotating pencil on a length of string.
  12. I would recommend a Cheshire eyepiece and sight tube combination tool (the Celestron and StellaLyra perform similarly) for alignment of your secondary and a cap for your primary. As per https://astro.catshill.com/collimation-guide/
  13. Space travel to other stars becomes much more sensible when you are an artificial life form which is what I think we will be our future. Turning off for the journey and booting up when you’ve arrived makes more sense to me than trying to travel as a carbon based life form. Give it another 50 years and I think we’ll be there.
  14. I think the Nexyz is probably the best but they are all fiddly to set up. https://astro.catshill.com/astrophotography-and-the-dobsonian/
  15. I would first recommend you buy a copy of Turn Left at Orion and spend some time going through it. As for a telescope I like these https://astro.catshill.com/why-did-i-choose-a-dobsonian/ but I would suggest that you join a local astronomy club to see one. The advice about getting binoculars is one I think makes sense. There is lots to see and that is where the book comes in handy.
  16. Mine have recessed Allen bolts and Phillips screws https://astro.catshill.com/mirror-cleaning/
  17. As you can see I like the Telrad and RACI combination. https://astro.catshill.com/finding-and-finder-scopes/ For finding objects I like to use an app on a tablet.
  18. I used a thin screwdriver and carefully inserted it between the white tube and mirror mount. I then turned the screwdriver to prise the mount out. It certainly did not come out due to gravity.
  19. As you can see, I think the Skywatcher is an excellent telescope, but it would not be my first choice if I were buying today https://astro.catshill.com/skywatcher-200p-review/
  20. I enjoyed this recently published, short video on the Crayford Focuser https://youtu.be/M3tdOeMHUWk
  21. A Cheshire eyepiece and sight tube combination tool for aligning your secondary and a cap for your primary would be my recommendation as per https://astro.catshill.com/collimation-guide/ Other accessories elsewhere on the blog.
  22. I first encountered southern skies near Cape Town and I was totally thrown by an upside down Canis Major being overhead and a somewhat familiar (because of its symmetry) Orion. The second visit was to the dark skies of Uluru and the two Megellanic clouds really impressed me.
  23. I didn’t come across any issues when I took my mirror apart as per https://astro.catshill.com/mirror-cleaning/ I
  24. This version will save some toner/ink when printed. messier-objects-ranked-by-viewing-difficulty INVERT.pdf
