  1. My equipment is outlined below. Tonight I was doing my first light just to test out all the components and it seems my batterypack is already dead after about 3-4 hours of getting darks, test exposures, and just having the tracking going. Is this the normal battery capacity of a 17ah sky watcher batterypack or do I have a defective one? Its about 0 where I am and the battery pack has been sitting at the concrete right next to the mount. When I went to check on it, the camera had shut off and the power light on the mount was blinking. So I checked the battery and the "needs charging" light was on. The battery was fully charged(from yesterday) so it shoudlnt have depleted this fast even in around zero temperatures right?
  2. You can look around and find objecs and their designations on stellarium I use it all the time ๐Ÿ˜
  3. Is the effect cumulative? Simce literally every piece of gear I have is new, will it take like 725539 weeks before I see clear skies again?๐Ÿ˜ฎ Is the big bossman bribeable? I'd really like some clear skies right about now..
  4. Man, I've been gathering my gear for about 4-5 months now and the only phito I've taken so far is a one-shot of the moon.. I've found that the hardest part is waiting.. And waiting.. and waiting.... And now that I finally have all my EQ6-R and got all the other new flashy gear properly set up, what happens? Well I will tell you, clouds come rolling in again and theres no clear skies in sight. Maan, I'm so tired of waiting. I just want to test my gear๐Ÿ˜ญ
  5. Great image with good detail! But it looks like you clipped the blackpoint which may have lost you some detail, especially in the background. But all in all very good๐Ÿ˜
  6. That article answered a lot of my questions! Thank you! Looks like I'll be opting for a L-Pro/L-enhance over the UHC though!
  7. To use your analogy a step further. Said car manufacturer wouldnt make a one wheel drive car (a useless product just to make money) when they have the 2WD or 4WD versions available for roughly same price. Companies sell things to make money, yes. But tricking customers gives said company a bad rep and people will stop buying from them. Earning them less money over time. My point is; if the CLS filter isnt meant for unmodded cameras, why do they sell so many of them when the supposedly much better CLS-CCD is just a few dollars more? And what is the porpose of the CLS clip ins if they arent meant for unmodded cameras? Same thing goes for the UHC, why make it and sell it as a clip in if it's not a good photographic filter? (Edit: Disregardin g visual use here because we're talking about clip ins)
  8. If it's not for unmodified cameras then what is it even for? But my point still stands about the UHC, if its meant for visual, why are there so many clip-ins for it. Im guessing they wouldnt produce clip ina for so many different cameras and on top of that sell so many of them if it werent a great photographic filter
  9. Oops ๐Ÿ˜… Well, I have both and since I have both modified and unmodifiet DSLRs it's fine. Hmm, then it's a bit weird that they have so many clip in versions of it for a bunch of different cameras.
  10. What about my Asteonomik Ha CCD or a UHC? Do I need the IR cut filter when using any of these? If not, wouldnt the stars bloat?
  11. So this is probably a very stupid question. But I have a few filters and I obviously want more. But what I'm wondering about is stacking filters? I need to use a Baader IR cut filter as my DSLR is full spectrum. Can I add a CLS CCD and a UHC filter in the image train as well? Or would the use of one cancell out the other? I can find a lot about how filters operate individually but nothing about how they would fair together.
  12. I'll try that tomorrow, thanks! Now it's time to cool down with a movie while I still have hair on my head! ๐Ÿ˜‚
  13. Should have yes! I set the Lat/Long of my cities location in EQMOD and loaded through ascom for APT and double checked that they matched. I've tried both slewing from home->target and target->target. Both produce the same results. I'm using the 17ah skywatcher batterypack for mount, camera & dew heaters, nothing else. Dew heaters are set to 0 by the way.
  14. I'm looking around the settings like a mad man but I can't find time and date settings anywhere. But they are displayed in the top right and it looks right?
  15. I just tried disablimg the limits in EQMOD and did a few slew tests(while keeping a close eye on things) it does no longer slew to the same location. It continues beyond that. However, it's still nowhere near where it should have pointed
  16. And I just noticed this, but it wouldnt be pointed anywhere near the horizon
  17. So I've installed all the softwares, platesolving, phd2 and what have you. I'm doing some slew testing( from inside) using APT just to see how the mount reacts, if cables will get stuck and so on. So, even if I'm inside doing testing I know that it would have slewn to the wrong target. When I had my EQ3-2 and had that(very roughly) polar aligned the targets that I'm trying to slew to would have been in completely other directions compared to the polar axis. I also noticed that i tried to slew to orion from andromeda and it moves for a split second and then stops. I figured it was because I hadnt set my location in APT, so I did that. Still having the same issue. I've also tried to slew to a few differemt targets but for some reason it slews to the same spot. Anything that really jumps out that I need to check?
  18. Nice! Indeed, i have a dummy battery, dew heaters and a insulated briefcase for my laptop. So hopefully the equipment will handle it! I'm considering making some insulation for the skywatcher battery pack as well. I just got the mount, so I'm not comfortable opening it up to regrese it yet due to warranty concerns, but somewhere down the line I will definitely do that! When it comes to myself, I used to be in the Army school of weapons and instructed a few winter survival courses, so I'm fairly confident I'll do OK ๐Ÿ˜‚ I was just concerned about the DSLR as the manufacrurers specs stated +6-40 degrees!
  19. So I'm about to start imaging for real here pretty soon, but I'm concerned about the temperature here in Norway. Obviously I won't go out to image if it's sub negative 20 for a lot of reasons, but I've looked at the specs for some of the equipment and I'm a bit concerned. Acording to specs, the EOS 600D has a 6-40 degrees celcius operating range. But considering the climate here that would exclude 4-5 months of the year. The darkest months. Can some of you DSLR folks enligthen me on this?
  20. So, as I have just gotten my brand new EQ6-R Pro and I'm starting to test a few things out, I'm obviously running into issues here and there. The last one is with EQMOD, no surprise there. I have V200q of EQMOD EQDIR cable connected directly to the computer I'm using the EQASCOM toolbox I did check which comport(COM3) is used and set it to COM3 under the driver setup in toolbox I set the baud to 115200 as well as the bits pr second under port settings. I got it to work, for a moment. But suddenly(with no changes on my end) i started getting the "Connect Error: Timeout" message and even after several system resets I can't get it to work. Suggestions? Edit: I just set the Baud to 9600 in the eqascom setup and the bits per second to 921600 in port settings and that... worked? Second edit: Well apperantly everything works now. Benchtest complete. Now I just have to make it work outside as well ๐Ÿ˜…
  21. Haha amazing ๐Ÿ˜‚ Such a small detail was my downfall
  22. I guess I should mention that I have the Lanparte E8 dummy battery and the Lynx Astro dummy battery cable - Laparte fit
  23. Hey yall! So I have the Lynx Astro Dewheater controller with DSLR power port and a dummy battery pack. I'm just doing some benchtesting on all the new gear and the DSLR doesnt turn on. The dewheater works, at least the lights turn on, but no reaction on the camera. I've tested with all 4 cameras, so I know it's not a camera issue. I tried detaching the dew heater straps, but still no reaction. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a faulty dummy battery? I am using the 17ah skywatcher batterypack.
  24. The postman was nice today. He delivered my EQ6-R Pro! Everything on this photo will have first light very soon!
