  1. Hi all

I setup my scope last night hoping for clouds to clear 😔 they didn't, so I packed up ext leads and covered scope with a bike cover I have just incase it rained , so today we have brilliant sun 🥳🌞, so is the scope ok cooking under the sun I have taken bike cover of and also the scope caps so air can circulate or should I keep it under bike cover to keep it out of direct sun ?

    Many thanks

Looking forward to see your photographs.

To mount the guide scope I do use a steel plate from a housestore. Then a 3d printed bracket to hold the guidescope.

Hi all I see a few ppl have what I can only describe as insulated scope and tri pod legs? Is this an attempt to keep dew from forming on the out side? Would very much appreciate an insight 🤨. Thanks

Its the wrong time of year to be honest. No darkness. I don't do any imaging at all in Jun / July its not worth trying so I have a break. Personally if it was me I would be looking at a small refactor (something like a 60mm F6 or a WO RedCat) to complement the 130PDS as opposed to a new camera. I think that most of your issues will be resolved by gaining more experience.

Hi Adam I've just been looking at the William optics 61 apo looks like a very nice scope ,you have def sparked my interest in this one 🤩

  4. So I decided to get the scope out and couldn't believe my eyes when all the clouds cleared and then Ipolar aligned first time perfect then I thought I would get 3 star aligned and would u believe it first time np I then thought long and hard about what to image 🤔🤔 .

    Guess what I choose ? That's right more ☁️☁️☁️☁️

second the ed80 route, superb scope, and adam like you ive found out the qhy 5 can be a finicky beast,i have a permanent set up ,but if i get any connection setup problems its always with my qhy5 ii,but when it works which is 99 percent of the time its excellent, dont give up,i sold my first setup for exactly what youre going through, had a 3 year break then set back up again, seemed like major troubles ,but worked my way through them now im good to go when clouds allow it,one major upgrade was a permanent mount with shed and a roll off roof, really does make a massive difference, good luck and dont give in ,it will come second nature very soon👍

It's a lot easier to hide another scope/ silver box in the shed than another shed with a roll off roof in the garden 🤣, although I have seen some good bamboo panels .

Would love to buy some exp , but it dont work like that 🥴. I think I've watched as much YouTube tutorials as I can manage and seen a few twice . I do love the 80ed ds pro but as I haven't really used the 130 properly yet I cant justify another scope. Although it dont stop me filling up my flo basket 😈 and hovering the finger over the purchase button .lol

It used to take me best part of an hour to set everything up from scratch out of bags and cases and to get polar aligned. A lot of this was attaching cables in various order as kit was added and tidying. Now, I simply carry (simply being the contentious word while my back allows) the lot, tripod, mount and scope with everything attached in and out of the house. It takes me 15 mins now to set up and less to end the session. Why cant you move it to storage in one piece? The weight? Security?

No space in shed for it setup 😔 plus it's a little heavey and awkward .I'm contemplating attaching as much as I can to a board so to reduce the amount that needs disconnecting every time.

Very nice, i plan tonuse the same tripod with my zenithstar 66 sd once it arrives until i can afford and heq5

It is def more stable with the qhy cam and st80 or 450d and my 50mm lens but fun to play with .

  9. Hi all so why my main setup is busy shooting clouds ,I've managed to sort out a fairly cheap 2nd setup for visual /unmod 450d /qhy5l ii with sharpcap ,its only with a st80 scope but as it was lying about . Now I just need some clr sky on my nights of 🥴. And yes I think it's a little heavy with the 450 on for the tripod but as I'm not leaving it unattended or breathing on it while in use should be ok for now until I find a sturdier one somewhere.

  10. Hi all

me and a pal are looking at going on a short break so we are looking into biking and Astro and have found a place in France for a week, and I’m just wandering has any one ever done a Astro trip and  what you thought about it , was it worth the price.?

    thanks

  11. Hi all

What are your thoughts on unplugging and plugging every time you finish a session , would I be safer leaving things or as much as possible still cable connected, dont want to start getting loose ports Asiair/cams/synscan.

Or leaving things plugged in and risking pressure on ports when packed away in cases and bags .

I'm Unable to leave it all set up and carry into shed 😩.

  12. Hi all less frustrating tonight .🥳

So first night with asiair only a few small issues had a loose power cable to synscan box which I solved after a while, then took a while to focus main camera ,so fairly productive .then decided to go visual on moon Jupiter and Saturn when it decides to poke its head up from behind some trees 🛸🛰.just seen Saturn and rings got a crap pic on phone cant wait to get this setup working properly 🤩😍

You can use a eq direct cable  i think. But for now forget  that. You always need to polar align. But as ever just forget the fancy gadgets and use the polar scope should be ok when guiding. Next use your handset and guide camera or eyepiece to do a one star align. Then the rest is via ASI air. It just needs you to start with the scope pointing in roughly the correct direction for the plate solving to work and take you to your target.

Not sure about eqmod cable as nothing in manual refers to it and backyard has st4 from mini to synscan.and yeah I just polar align with mount .
