  1. Wow, a big welcome to SGL! we're her to help and answer whatever question you may have. That optical contraption in the image, I have no idea what it is but I know I need one, though something tells me I can't afford it.

  2. Interesting question, I am inclined to say that the level of luminosity in the room would not change, light does not accumulate in a closed space then suddenly escape, darkening said space. If this were the case then I believe light would accumulate in a closed space so that eventually it would be infinitely bright until a door is opened allowing loght to flood out. We know light doesn’t behave this way. But I am not a physicist so this is just my layman’s analysis.

Here's a thought! It would be nice to have a map of the UK where we could say drop a pin or similar to show on a daily basis if we have clear sky and are observing or imaging.  If each night could be saved then we would have a UK record for the year where maybe the pages could be played in movie mode so we can see the changing pattern and average activity across the year.  Ok so it's cloudy here and I have nothing better to do than think of this type of thing lol.  So over to the clever talented people of SGL who can do web design/coding :)

Oh wow I love this idea! If i may expand on this. It would be great if one could see all the continents on a map here on SGL and see where others are observing. Maybe we would select a pull down tab and select our status which reflects live on the map, that would be neat. Though I am willing to bet the vast majority of pins would be in the UK, it would still be fun to see where we all are located.

I agree John - and the ‘several hundred £s’ is now rather more for all but the very cheapest dedicated scopes. Have a look at current new prices for the Lunt 60, and you’ll see that even this modest aperture scope, with a small internal etalon (cheaper to produce than the better performing, full aperture external etalons) is many thousands new. Double stacked is almost double the price.

Oh my gosh, i was curious and looked on FLO’s website, the Lunt 60 configuration I purchased here in Canada is nearly double the price in UK when considering the exchange back to Canadian dollars, outrageous!

So pleased the session with the FS 128 was a great success.

Sounds like all these chores mean that you are still in the doghouse for scratching the kitchen table. Hope you don’t need a hard hat

In fact, this image is me pinned down under the FS128 lens cap. Revisited this thread just now 😁
