  1. Certainly we must all enjoy looking at star fields, sometimes I will just move my telescope around with a wide field eyepiece and surprise myself with what runs across my FOV. There are so many rich fields when sweeping across the milky way region, one could get lost in the spectacle, in fact, some of most rewarding sessions are no target list nights.

Who am I kidding? i never make a target list, that seems like work.

Hi, "sunshine" that's already one year ago. May I ask you an short update how good the PT etalon works and the useful magnification? And where you are using the telescope... at the fields or at home?  Thanks.  ( I always viewing near my home and using a Svbony 10-30 zoom eyepiece. The image seems a little bigger to me compared to normal eyepieces and generally I need more patience for the prominences then for the surface detail. Maybe this is normal for a (tilt) 60 telescope? Never seen spicules. This one is made in 2017 , so it's probably not one of these older, " very good " models with their better built etalons or whatever the thing is...).  Andre.

It has been a year! thanks for asking and I must say that I am delighted with all aspects of the scope. This Lunt 60 is not my first, I did own an old tilt tuned model which was nine years old when I bought it about five years ago. Regarding the pressure tuner, I did have that old tilt tuned model retrofitted to pressure tuned as I was not convinced the tilt tuner was either working, or if it was working it did not affect much change which I found to be anticlimactic. Once I sent it off to lunt for a PS retrofit it came back a totally different scope. Turning the pressure tuner was a joy to use as it would unmistakably reveal different features. If your tilt tuner allows for visible changes in what you are able to see then I would assume it os doing it’s job, my tilt tuner must have been broken. If you’re wondering why I purchased a second Lunt60 telescope in just five years? because Im an amateur astronomer and we are known to do remarkably daft things like selling scopes we enjoy only to regret it later.

Clear Skies! and feel free to ask more questions if you like.

    Celestron Nexstar 8SE

I plan to use this following setup.

    Celestron NexStar 8SE

2012 13” MacBookPro running Win 10 from BootCamp

    Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III

iPad mini 6th Gen for remote control of the Olympus.

I also have a 2024 16” MacBookAir M3 that I plan to use later to capture and process the images.

Any suggestions, comments, or help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like you’re all decked out for some awesome observing sessions!

Your location relative to the center of the north magnetic field, I think, is producing this effect for you and Sunshine. Energy from the Sun's flare is channeled down those field lines, concentrated on the center. Would love to experience it for myself, sometime.

    .

Interesting, what struck me most about the display I witnessed was it’s rippling and pulsing quality. Having seen countless Aurora videos online I was expecting very slow movement, if any. What I saw was pulsing almost like one would see from distant lightning on the horizon, ripples would slowly appear then pulse in brightness while indulating. It was far more quick and animated than I expected.

These images capture the feeling of looking straight up during the auroral display very well. Almost like the sky is splitting in half, i wonder if that's just an illusion in the sense that when looking straight up there is the least amount of atmosphere in the way and so it looks like there are holes in the sky.

Good point, perhaps this is true!

  6. It was 2am when the clouds broke, I looked outside in my back garden and was floored by the display!. My wife was sleeping but I excitedly woke her and she crawled outside to her astonishment the light show was peaking. Just at the end of my street there is a park, I ran there and stayed till 4am laying on the soaked grass composing images with trees. What a stunning experience it was!.

  7. If my telescopes could talk what would they say? I have an idea..

My tak would say “stop undressing me with your eyes”

My dob would say “stop pushing me around, you bully”

My Lunt would say “aw how come I never get to see planets?!”
