I'll give you $500 for that ultra-rare 15mm XW.  I've never even heard of one before. 😉

LOL, you had me stoked, for a minute i thought i was cashing in on a rare eyepiece so i ran downstairs to my basement and opened my eyepiece case to my dismay.

AHHHH!! $500 US is like i dunno 5 thousand Canadian! I do have this ultra rare 14mm if you like? lol

  3. Welcome to SGL! it seems to me you need a nice 8” dobsonian, something small enough to be easily portable yet large enough to entertain for a good long while.  Whatever your choice, have fun and enjoy the lounge, you’ll find all the info and inspiration you need here.

I watched it on prime, then it threw up 30 more options to me.

I shall watch them in my own time and there may be other recommendations 😉👍

If you love a good documentary as much as I do, you’ll enjoy this one, especially if you have a skywatcher dob.

  5. Considering the requirements you've outlined I don't see any reason why the 6/8" 8Se wouldn't be a great choice. A 6/8" would have sufficient aperture to view a vast majority of objects including DSO's and it is a computerized scope in a fairly small and, portable package. With regards to your light pollution situation, this works against viewing DSO's which beg for dark skies but, I can almost guarantee you will be motivated to head out away from the city on occasion with family to enjoy those darker sky views.  One more advantage with the Se type scopes is viewing position, SCT's mounted on single/fork arm mounts have the most comfy viewing positions which will make it easier for your 9 year old, maybe you'll need a little stepping stool or not. Personally I think you need not look any further than a 6/8" Se (8 is better of course) I'm sure others will weigh in, best of luck!.

  6. Gobsmacking! when i opened it in full size it was like a smack in the face on my fairly large screen. This is the larges image of the moon i have had the pleasure of scrolling through, just for kicks i measured the size of the image and

figured if i wanted to see the entire image i would need a print 5.5 ft x 5x5 ft.

    Amazing!!

  7. Highlights for me:

    - After trying and trying and trying again, i finally conquered and split Zeta Herc earlier this summer! with my 115mm frac and 3.5mm XW. To some this may be a regular thing but,

it was a challenge with horrid seeing conditions and all.

    - Getting my first refractor (save for the 60mm doorstop i had as an 11yr old) it was exciting to see stars/planets through a decent 115mm triplet, there's something satisfying

about refractors and using them in general.

    - Finally splitting Zeta Herc!

    - Sharing these things with the SGL group of fine people who even though are separated by hundreds, thousands of Km's, we're still a family.

I'm going to make myself cry.
