Once you find Polaris just once from the spot where you normally set up your telescope just remember what landmarks it is above/beside. When you stand in the same spot next time, you'll know polaris will be directly above your neighbors chimney for example. Even if I cannot see the stars while setting up at dusk, I know that when I stand a couple of feet from the end of my steps and look directly over the highest point of my neighbors rooftop, polaris is just above. Sometimes I manage to set up my scope precisely enough so that polaris ends up within the polar scopes FOV, Using landmarks helps for a rough alignment well before polaris is visible. my method may sound archaic but, because polaris will always be in the same spot, as long as you remember where you are standing with respect to permanently placed objects in your yard and, facing the same way, you'll be able to point to polaris very accurately, day or night.

Fantastic! the owl nebula always amazes me because of its almost perfect orb like shape, there are more fuzzies than my eyes can see in this image.

Many times I hear the term "old data" used here on SGL, this makes me curious about how/if old data can be improved upon as the years go by and, new software is made available.
It would be interesting to see some images that were improved/rescued with new and more versatile software. Comparison images would be neat to see, if anyone has examples
of images which were greatly improved with new software then post them here. Being a photographer, recall what a revelation Adobe Lightroom was for me, Images which i would
have tossed away before were easily corrected working in RAW with Lightroom, it changed everything for me. It would be neat to see how new tools may give new life to old
AP images.

I don't mind it at all, nothing about how the world works is easy when you take a scalpel to it, if a small percentage of us can follow along then great. If anything, it motivates me to delve into and understand a bit more.

Been trying to follow along, maybe someone can sum up all 6 pages of this thread in layman's terms, thanks.
i'll be waiting........Hello?

All this talk of doubles has me yearning to get outside for once, I love doubles and keep notes of observations. Clouds and frigid temperatures have ruined my fun, feel free to list some of your Fav
winter doubles for me to see! I will mine the above posts for doubles to keep in mind.

Unable to open it, maybe it's the tiff format.

It may be a lot more enjoyable to look through scopes rather than conduct forensic investigations into the way the dilithium crystals in the perpendicular cohesion of their tubular viscosity affects the resonating gamma waves
entering the vertical objective end. Just making light of situation, no offence to anyone of course.
Talk about a run on sentence, I have no idea where to insert a period/coma in there.

Nice report, as I said once before, sometimes those fleeting sessions are the most rewarding and, I agree with your wife regarding clusters, they are beautiful objects especially in a dob of 8" or larger.

Thanks for the heads up! I will have a peek at this star, what scope were you using and what is this star's magnitude? wondering if i have enough light grasp with a 4" refractor.

A pleasure to read, if I find myself in Australia one of these wrong turns I always make, I’ll definitely send you a message, a sky tour would be nice!
